To get on a 3 day Huchuy Qosqo hike, we have to leave early in direction to Tambomachay and from here will start hiking. As we are climbing the mountain valley we will pass mountains lakes, and small communities. The beauty around us is unique, and we will see a variety of birds such as the Andean Geese, partridges and lapwings as well as a variety of birds of prey, all of which are regularly spotted throughout the day.
Our guide will inform us on our advances on this route that eventually will takes us to Tauca town where we will find archaeological vestiges, wild crops, such as tarwi, and a large quantity of cactus.
The trail takes us to Pukamarca pass at 4, 200m, and for our enjoyment, will see the superb Veronica, Pitusiray, Chicon mountains and San Juan snow peak. Later on we will descend towards the beautiful, remote Andean pueblo Pukamarca at 4,010m above sea level, and stop there for a rest.
The Huchuy Qosqo hike, has a unique sight as an alternative route, there is more beautiful landscapes to see as we will walk downhill to a mystical ancient path that lead us to Leon Punku Ravine. A small and narrow corridor between rock walls, Inca remains and a sets of stairs made by them. This canyon is absolutely magical and boasts geological formations surrounded by majestic rocks and boulders that direct the river to Huchuy Qosqo at 3,600m, where we will be arriving. We will explore the ruins and admire its formation on the mountains but first we will settle no far from this archeological site to pass the night.
