Horse Riding to Four Ruins in Cusco

Our wonderful half-day horseback tour around the highlands of Cusco provides a wonderful way to visit four archaeological complexes on the outskirts of the city. With your bilingual guide (Spanish/English), you’ll ride through beautiful Andean landscapes to four of the most important sites. Sacsayhuaman, Qenqo, Tambomachay, and Puka Pukara. Your horse will take you to the entrance of each archeological site, where you will dismount and explore the ruins. Once finished, your trusty steed will be waiting to take you to the next amazing Inca site. Combine history and adventure on this wonderful half-day horse riding tour of the Cusco ruins!
Our day will begin when we pick you up from your hotel in Cusco at 9 a.m./1p.m. We’ll then make the short drive to the ranch, just outside of Cusco, where we’ll meet our horses. Your guide will give you all the necessary instructions and information for your ride, which will last for three to four hours, approx.
Setting of on horseback, we’ll first head up to the incredible Inca site of Sacsayhuaman. Built on a hilltop overlooking Cusco, Saqsayhuaman displays some of the greatest examples of Inca stonework, with massive stone blocks shaped and carved to perfection and fitting seamlessly into the huge walls. We’ll then ride to Qenqo, one of the largest huacas, or holy places, in the Cusco Region. Here we’ll see natural rock formations that the Incas used for sacred purposes, carving shapes and symbols into the rocks.
Next we’ll ride up to Puka Pukara, a set of military ruins. Built by the Inca Empire, this fort has large walls, terraces and staircases, and a commanding view that allowed the Incas to see any approaching threats long before they could attack Cusco below. The last site we’ll explore during our ride is Tambomachay. Its exact purpose is unknown, but it may have functioned, at least in part, as an Inca spa. Inca hydro-engineering is apparent here, with a series of aqueducts, canals and waterfalls running through the terraced rocks.
At around 11:15 a.m. we’ll arrive at Chacan Mountain where we’ll have a break with amazing views of Cusco. After the break we’ll start riding back down to the ranch. Once we’ve said goodbye to our beautiful horses, we’ll drive you back to your hotel in Cusco, where our tour will end.
Note:
In addition to the tour price, you must purchase a Cusco tourist ticket. A full tourist ticket costs S/130 or S/70 for students (up to 25 years old with a valid ISIC card). The full tourist ticket is valid for 10 days and allows entry to various tourist attractions in Cusco and the Sacred Valley. This is the better option if you also plan visit the Sacred Valley, the South Valley and the museums in Cusco. An alternative option is to buy a partial tourist ticket for S/70, which is valid for only one day.
