Ceiba Tops Lodge

The beautiful Ceiba Tops Lodge is located on the banks of the Amazon River, just 40 km (25 mi) from Iquitos. The comfortable suites are all air-conditioned, and each has a private bathroom, and the Amazonian rainforest setting is truly wonderful. With elaborate gardens, a swimming pool, a hammock house, and a lounge, the lodge is the perfect base for exploring the surrounding Amazon jungle. You can also enjoy many different excursions available, both on foot and on the river.

We will pick you up from the Iquitos Airport or your hotel, and after a quick tour of Iquitos City, we’ll head to the Explorama dock to board our boat to The Ceiba Tops Lodge. We’ll then head off on a 40 km boat ride down the Amazon River to Ceiba Tops Lodge. After settling in and seeing the grounds and facilities, we will enjoy lunch. We will then head out on an afternoon hike in this beautiful primary rainforest reserve that surrounds the Lodge, with many huge trees bedecked with epiphytes, and “air plants” that grow in the trees!
After a tasty dinner, your guide will take you on a short walk to a small lake where you can see caiman. You’ll also hear the cacophony of jungle sounds that begin after dark. This sound made by insects, frogs, and other creatures who call the rainforest home will serenade you each evening as you sleep in the middle of the rainforest.

In the morning we’ll take a boat ride to the small indigenous community of the Yagua people. Here, your guide will tell you all about the culture of the Yagua people, and how they were affected by the arrival of Europeans and the passing of time. You’ll also see the local crafts, and have a demonstration of the blowgun that some of the Yagua elders still use for hunting – you can have a go yourself, too!
We will head back to the Lodge for lunch, then in the afternoon, we will head out on a walking excursion to the neighboring town of Indiana. Originally a Franciscan mission, Indiana has grown into a large river community with its own market, high school, and even a small hospital!
We will then head back to Ceiba Tops Lodge for dinner and a well-earned rest!

We will depart Ceiba Tops at sunrise, to travel by speedboat along the Amazon and Napo Rivers to the Amazon Rainforest Reserve and the ExplorNapo Lodge. You will arrive just in time for breakfast! After breakfast, we’ll have a 45-minute hike in pristine rainforest until we reach the wonderful Canopy Walkway. The walkway is a suspended bridge spanning over 500 meters (one-third of a mile), connected by platforms in the trees and reaching a height of more than 35 meters (115 feet) above the ground. From this vantage point, we can see the Amazon Rainforest as few humans ever have, without any type of climbing skill or equipment, and suitable for all ages.
Afterwards, we’ll have lunch at ExplorNapo and then visit the ReNuPeRu Ethnobotanical Garden. There are over 240 species of plants tended by a shaman and his assistants. These plants have a variety of uses, perhaps most importantly for their medicinal qualities. Your guide will translate as the shaman explains many of the qualities of these plants, and the important role they play in spiritual healing practices.
Afterwards, we’ll return to Ceiba Tops where you can relax and spend time in the pool before dinner.

On our final day, we will head out on a boating or walking excursion to enjoy the rainforest surrounding Ceiba Tops. If you prefer, you can spend your time relaxing at the hammock house or enjoy the pool and Ceiba Tops gardens.
This marks the end of the wonderful Ceiba Tops experience. In the afternoon, we’ll take you back to Iquitos and either drop you off at the airport (if you have a flight to catch) or take you to your hotel. If your flight plans allow it, we can also take you somewhere for breakfast and/or lunch.
Note: Due to the ever-changing nature of the rainforest, the order of day-by-day activities is subject to change due to weather, as well as trail and river conditions.
