Maniti Eco Lodge

The Maniti Eco Lodge is located about 43 miles (70 km) downriver from the city of Iquitos. Here, in the natural surroundings of the Amazon rainforest, you can spend time relaxing in your cozy private bungalow, built entirely from secondary-growth rainforest materials. Don’t expect every modern amenity at the eco-lodge – there’s no hot water and no air conditioning – but this all helps to preserve the authentic jungle experience.
During your stay at Maniti, you’ll be able to take part in various jungle activities, including Amazon jungle treks, boat excursions, night walks, and fishing, all of which will be arranged for you.

Your rainforest adventure begins when we meet you in Iquitos. We’ll then head to the port town of Nanay, where the Nanay River meets the Amazon, to board a boat for a two-hour trip down the river. On the way, there’s a good chance we’ll see caimans, turtles, herons, pink river dolphins, snakes, and many other species of flora and fauna in the river or along the riverbank.
Our first stop will be the wonderful Monkey Island, a small island about 15 minutes from the Maniti Lodge, which shelters a large number of monkeys in their natural habitat. Here we can observe and interact with a wide variety of monkeys, including goeldi’s monkeys, tamarins, capuchins, yellow-handed titis, masked titis, cebidaes, wooly monkeys, spider monkeys, and more. We’ll also see a few sloths as they lounge in the trees, and you can handle massive anacondas and boas and interact with the very unique and rare Amazonian mata-mata turtle.
We’ll then arrive at the wonderful Maniti Eco Lodge, where you can settle in and enjoy lunch. In the afternoon we’ll head out on a fishing excursion to catch piranha, catfish, and other species of fish. Hopefully, we’ll see some pink river dolphins, too, and if we’re lucky we’ll be able to swim with them in the Amazon River. In the evening we will go on a nocturnal nature hike to see what types of species can be seen after dark, including lizards, snakes, spiders, and monkeys.
