Muyuna Lodge

The Muyuna Lodge is a boutique eco-Lodge located in the heart of the Peruvian Amazon, about 87 miles upriver from Iquitos. Its remote position in the Tamshiyacu-Tahuayo National Reserve, and close to the Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve, makes it an excellent base for exploring the jungle and seeing all the wonderful flora and fauna.
Its 17 wooden stilted cabins are located in front of the Yanayacu River, and each was built by hand using sustainable local materials. The main cabin, meanwhile, has a large dining room where you can relax, eat, and have a beer or two. The Amazon jungle surrounds Muyuna, so a wide range of activities and jungle excursions are available right on your doorstep, and our bilingual guides will always be on hand to ensure you get the most from your time in the Amazon rainforest.
Your Amazon adventure begins when we pick you up from the airport or you hotel in Iquitos. We’ll then head to the port and board our boat for a beautiful three-hour trip up the Amazon River. When we arrive at Muyuna, you’ll have time to settle in and we’ll show you the various facilities.
Later, we’ll head off on what’s known as the Leoncito Hike, where you appreciate the vast array of flora around the Muyuna area. You'll also see massive ceiba trees, which tower up through the jungle. Keeping our eyes open for local wildlife, we’ll hopefully see pigmy marmosets (the smallest monkeys in the world), squirrels, tamarin monkeys, and howler monkeys, whose deafening roar can be heard from many miles away. After watching the sunset over the rainforest, we’ll head back to Muyuna. Later we’ll go for a nighttime boat trip in search of caimans and nocturnal birds and mammals.

Begin your day with a hearty breakfast before embarking on an exhilarating excursion along the Amazon River, where you can swim alongside the enchanting pink and grey dolphins if you are lucky enough! You can marvel at the world's largest aquatic plant, the majestic Victoria Regia, and we should be able to observe iguanas in their natural habitat. After enjoying a delicious Amazonian lunch
After lunch, we’ll take the boat to two more lakes where we can go fishing and catch different kinds of fish, including the infamous piranha! Piranhas aren’t nearly as terrifying as they appear in the movies, and fishing for them is great fun – just watch out for their razor-sharp teeth when you have one on the end of a line.
After dinner, we’ll head out on a night walk in search of huge frogs, which are the anaconda’s favorite food. We’ll also see several species of tarantulas and other nighttime creatures.

After an early breakfast, we’ll set off on a visit to the local lakes. We can explore on foot or by canoe, depending on the water level on the lake. Here we can see a huge array of colorful birds, as well as sloths and many monkeys.
After lunch, we’ll head off on another boat excursion to visit Caño where we’ll look for different species of monkeys, especially the howler monkey. We can also observe the Hoatzin, a prehistoric bird found in the swamps of The Amazon.
On the way back, we will visit the wonderful San Juan de Yanayacu village, where we can get to know the locals. They are incredibly friendly and are happy for you to explore their village, and they might ask you to join in with a game of soccer or volleyball.
After dinner, we’ll head out on a nighttime canoe trip, which is a wonderful way to experience the rainforest at night, with its cacophony of calls and other sounds.

Sadly, today is your final day at Muyuna Lodge. But we still have one more place to visit! After breakfast, we will head out on a morning excursion with kayaks or canoes to explore other lakes near Yanayacu River. We can then wind down in hammocks or swim in Yanayacu River before our departure.
We will have lunch and you’ll be able to count all the animals that you’ve marked off on your Animal Check List. Unfortunately, this is where your jungle adventure ends, and we’ll make the three-hour boat journey back to Iquitos. When we arrive, we’ll take you to your hotel or to the airport to catch your flight back to Lima. We hope you enjoyed your time at Muyuna Lodge and the amazing Amazon rainforest!
