Best Alternative Treks to Machu Picchu – The Complete 2026 Guide

Traveling to Machu Picchu does not have to mean following in the same footsteps as everyone else. Peru is a land of many sacred pathways, many built by the Incas. Today, more travelers are realizing that the most meaningful treks often happen away from the crowds. Here we will introduce you to the best alternative treks to Machu Picchu. Our alternative treks are expertly designed for trekkers who are interested in nature, culture, and connection… not queues. In the Andes, there is an ancient belief that not all paths are meant for everyone. If you want an Andean trek that feels personal, with wide open spaces, and with a deep connection to the land, then our alternative treks Cusco may be exactly what the Apus have been saying all along. These treks are not “second choices.” They are sacred in their own right. Still walked by farmers, locals, pilgrims, and Andean families way before Machu Picchu became world-famous.

Our alternative treks to Machu Picchu are the gateway into a more immersive and deeper experience in the Peruvian Andes. These trekking routes were used by shepherds, traders, and local communities long before tourism existed in Peru.

For many trekkers, they are just as important as the Inca Trail, and definitely a much more personal experience. While the Inca Trail is magnificent, it is not the only way to arrive at Machu Picchu!

Benefits Compared to the Inca Trail

Unlike the classic Inca Trail, most Inca Trail alternatives do not need permits or need to be booked months in advance. These trekking routes offer more flexibility and allow you to walk at the rhythm you choose. You will still reach Machu Picchu, but through pristine scenery that feels untouched and actually living. These treks allow space for spontaneous experiences such as a conversation with a local farmer, the sound of wind through ichu grass, or a glacial lake that reflects giant snow-covered peaks. In the real Andes, time is a fluid concept!

More Availability, Fewer Crowds

One of the main reasons travelers choose alternative Machu Picchu tours is the availability. These alternative routes arean excellent option when Inca Trail permits are sold out. Or if you prefer space, silence, and open trails. You don’t need to plan 6-8 months in advance, and you won’t be hiking following other trekkers along the same pathway. Our alternative routes are ideal for hikers seeking authentic experiences in the mountains of Peru. Perfect for photographers looking for remote, untouched vistas. Excellent for families with children who are looking for a calmer, unhurried trekking experience.

Scenic, Cultural, and Adventure Differences

Some of the most scenic treks in Cusco are often beyond the Inca Trail. Ponder on glacial lakes, rainbow mountains, remote highland villages, and alpacas grazing happily.

Each one of our alternative treks takes you into a different nd unique Andean world. To places that can only be reached on foot, where high-altitude reigns, and ancestral traditions that are still practiced today in this part of Peru.

When you are choosing a trek, it is helpful to compare the main trekking options side by side. Here we will highlight the best alternative treks in Peru, comparing duration, difficulty level, and travel style. This will help you decide which trek is better than the Inca Trail for what you are personally looking for on an Andean trek.

It is important to understand all about Inca Trail permits 2026 when you are planning your hike.
Inca Trail permits are limited, non-transferable, and required for all Inca Trail guided tours.
Permit availability depends on the season you are trekking, public demand, and booking time.
This is why booking early is the most reliable way to guarantee your preferred Inca Trail itinerary options.
A long story short? BOOK EARLY!

The Lares Trek to Machu Picchu is for trekkers looking for an element of cultural immersion. It passes through the highlands of the Sacred Valley through weaving communities, high altitude lakes, pristine mountain scenery, and even some medicinal hot springs! The Lares Trek is one of the most meaningful lesser known treks in Peru for trekkers interested in community and culture.

Local Communities

The trail passes through authentic Quechua villages untouched by tourism. Traditional farming, weaving, and ancient customs still form a part of daily life. This is a living representation of “ayni,” which means reciprocity, in Quechua.

Hot Springs

The Lares trek is famous for its natural hot springs in Lares town. They provide rest, relaxation, and healing after hiking in the Andes for days. Like a gift from the earth.

Best for Cultural Immersion

The Lares route is often compared in Lares trek vs Salkantay trek as an alternative to the Inca Trail. Lares is ideal for trekkers who prefer a cultural element to their trek. This remote trek allows for authentic Andean cultural immersion in the weaving communities where ancient ancestral tradition is still integral in everyday activities.

The Choquequirao archaeological site can only be reached on foot. This makes it a trekker’s paradise hidden in the Andes. This is the most demanding trek in the Cusco region, as you will need to hike in and out of the Apurimac canyon. However, the fact that hardly anyone treks this route is one of its most attractive features. This trek is challenging but also one of the most dramatic Inca Trail alternatives. Don’t let the low altitudes fool you! All be it at a lower elevation than many Andean treks, it more than makes up for it with the high temperatures of the cloud forest at the lower elevations.

Choquequirao Trek to Machu Picchu

Hardest Alternative Trek

Choquequirao is characterized by long distances, steep ascents and descents, in and out of a canyon, and the fact that it is incredibly remote makes this trek suitable for experienced hikers who have no problem trekking in hot climates at low altitudes and icy temperatures at the higher elevations. The route is marked by its mindblowing extremes.

Archaeology-Focused

The Choquequirao site is thought to be larger than Machu Picchu. It remains partially excavated and is far less visited than Machu Picchu, probably because it is tricky to get to. This is one of the factors why this alternative trek gives you a sense of exploration and expedition.

Who It’s Best For

By far, this is a trek for serious ikers who are up for the experience. Archaeology lovers will be amazed by a work in progress, and those comparing Choquequirao vs Salkantay will adore this trek for its isolation and remoteness.

Choquequirao Trek to Machu Picchu

The Ausangate mountain is to the South of Cusco and in the opposite direction from Machu Picchu. This region is historically famous for the Qollr Riti pilgrimage each year in May. This is rooted in Andean cosmology as well as Spanish catholicism from bygone years. The Ausangate region not only has the highest mountain, after which it is named, but it also has some of the highest remote terrains in all of the Andes. See herds of alpacas graze beneath glaciers and lakes glittering with unreal colors. Then there are the rainbow mountains of Peru, which are also found in the Vilcanota mountain range in the Andes of Peru.

Lakes, Alpacas, Glaciers

The Ausangate region is notable for its high-altitude glacial water lakes, roaming alpacas, and enormous glaciers. This is Mother Nature at her most extreme.

Rainbow Mountain Variations

Some Ausangate itineraries include the psychedelic Rainbow Mountain, which is found in the same mountain range. Today, many people debate which mountain is most important, with Ausangate vs Rainbow Mountain comparisons. However, the Ausangate is an Apu and sacred to the local people. Rainbow Mountain only appeared more recently when its continuous snow cover melted away, revealing the stripey mountain. In the same region is also the Palcoyo Rainbow Mountain and the Red Valley. Thus, making it one of the most colorful sections of the Andes.

Rainbow Mountain Treks – Colorful Landscapes in the Andes

The Rainbow Mountain is now one of Peru´s most visited natural attractions. This colorful mountain in the Vilcanota Mountain range is part of a larger Andean ecosystem. Most people will generally take a day trip from Cusco to the Rainbow Mountain called Vinicunca. However, spending a few days trekking in the region allows exploration of red valleys, Andean communities, hot springs, and a pristine silence beyond words.

Day Hikes and Multi-Day Options

The Ranbow mountain área offers short hikes, day trips, and longer trekking routes. This depends on the time you have and how much you want to immerse yourself in mountain life in this section of the Andes.

Ausangate, Rainbow Mountain to Machu Picchu
Ausangate, Rainbow Mountain to Machu Picchu

Best Time to Go

is the best time of year to visit, and the shoulder seasons also offer fewer people. In fact, the only time that is not recommended is the rainy season from December to March, when you have a higher chance of a snow-covered Vinicunca, which almost defeats the point of visiting! Most day trips begin early from Cusco. This is to catch the best light, which makes the colors stand out. However, if you want to avoid the crowds and day trippers he afternoon is a better option. The dry season from May to September

Choosing an alternative trek depends on what you want to get out of the trek. Do you prefer nature? Scenery? Cultural immersion? Getting away from the crowds?

Cost

Most of our alternative treks are more affordable than the Inca Trail.

This is because there are no permits involved, because we can use pack animals instead of porters, and logistics are easier to maneuver.

Crowds

If you prefer a more remote trek with fewer people, then there are significantly fewer hikers on alternative treks in the Andes. The Inca Trail is one of the most famous treks in the world, which is why it attracts hundreds of trekkers each year. The alternative routes are just as important but not as highly promoted in Peru. This means that lots of trekkers don´t even know they exist!

Scenery

The alternative Machu Picchu tours and treks are totally off the beaten path, are more remote, leser-visited and have more diverse landscapes than the Inca Trail.

They are literally the hidden, undiscovered Andes for most, except for generations of Andean people who have lived here for centuries.

Booking Flexibility

No special permissions are required, so alternative treks permits don’t actually exist.

Some communities charge a fee for the upkeep of the trail, but this is included in the cost of your trek.

Difficulty

The difficulty level of each alternative trek varies. Most are found at high altitude, so acclimatization is a must. Some even head down into canyons and to the rainforests, which means much warmer trekking conditions. Distances also vary and may range from 3 days to 12 day expeditions, depending on how long you want to trek in the region.

By Difficulty

Match the trek to your fitness level. How many days do you want to trek for, and how long do you have to acclimatize prior to the trek? For example, if you don’t want a challenging experience, then the Choquequirao trek is probably not for you. Even though it is at a lower altitude than most other treks.

By Time Available

Trekking options range from short one-day hikes to extended 12-day expeditions through the Andes.

Each alternative route offers a different level of challenge, scenery, and cultural immersion along the journey.

Whether you seek a brief adventure or a multi-day exploration, these treks provide diverse ways to experience the Andes beyond the classic trail.

By Scenery Preference

If you want to see glaciers and high-altitude lakes, or remote traditional villages, archaeological sites, or colorful mountains.

We can suggest the best trek for you depending on exactly what you are interested in.

By Cultural Immersion

The Lares and Ausangate routes offer the best opportunities for local interactionand connection with Andean communities. These routes pass through weaving and farming villages where the traditional way of life rules. This means they are the best trekking routes for authentic cultural interaction.

Month-by-Month

Dry season (May–September) offers the clearest conditions and colder nights. Remember, it is Winter in the Andes, which also means it is dry season. These months are also the best for sky watching with starry Andean skies at night.

Weather Expectations

Shoulder months are warmer. This time of year balances fewer crowds with warmer weather. Either before or just after the rainy season.
The rainy season (December to March) is not recommended in general. However, routes such as the Lares trek can still be hiked.

The main reason to choose guided alternative treks Peru, is that we arrange most of the logistics for your alternative trek to Machu Picchu. We include transport to and from the Trailhead, meals on the trek, camping equipment, mules and muleteers, and connect you to Machu Picchu.

What to Pack

Clothing in layers for all weather conditions. The Andes are unpredictable, so prepare for all eventualities. Take sun protection, rain protection, comfortable footwear, a camera, repellent, and most importantly, a positive attitude!

Acclimatization

Spend adequate time in Cusco or the Sacred Valley before heading out on a trek. We recommend at least 3 days for most alternative routes. However, if you can spend more time acclimatizing, you will enjoy a much better experience on the trek.

Safety

Our professionalism on the lesser known treks in Peru is what sets us apart. We know these lesser-visited routes like the back of our hand, which means we guarantee support along the route. We are also adept at risk management, having experienced all the conditions and eventualities that can happen in the Andes. So, you are in extremely safe hands while you trek the remote Andes!

Have questions about your tour? You’re not alone. Here we cover the most common topics — from packing tips and safety to transportation and accommodations. Whether you’re heading to Machu Picchu, the Amazon, or beyond, this section will help you feel prepared and confident.

Alternative treks do not require permits. Some alternative treks include a combination of the alternative trek and the short Inca Trail. In this case, you will need a permit for the Inca Trail section. However, don´t worry! We take care of all permits.

A great experience!
A group of us from Australia were on a TripADeal tour with various guides. When we arrived in Cusco we met Mariella, who would be with us for about 6 days all up. We couldn’t have asked for anyone better! Such a wonderful and knowledgeable person, who made us all feel like a family 🙂 She went above and beyond what was required, and made sure we had the best time! The private day walks, exploring and tours were great, and it was an outstanding experience to see the country.

From exploring the ways of the Inca and seeing the pre Inca ways was a treat. To feel the ancient pulse of the land was very special.

Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu & Cusco
Part of a Trip A Deal tour. 1 st day Sacred Valley- solo as rest of group put on later plane from Lima. My Guide was not very interested & had me at my hotel in Urubamba by 1130- no breakfast or lunch. The remaining 3 days with Claudio as our tour guide were extremely good, he is passionate, knowledgeable and very involved about Inca history – we had a great time.

Peru Machu Pichu Cuzco and Lima tour very interesting and fun
The tour was marvellous and to see such ancient sacred sights up close and personal was amazing. Walking the paths of so many previous occupants of the beautiful Andes was a thrill. The tours in their completeness were action packed but worth the effort. Our stops were very informative and our guest speakers spoke amazing English which added to our interests. Our guide Jose was very knowledgeable about the beautifully preserved Inca Sacred valley and Machu Pichu itself. Jose was an extremely polite host and guide, he was very conscious of the varying age gaps of our group and made sure the pace was adjusted to suit all. Thoroughly recommend the package trip adventure and learning awaits you.

Valencia travel experience
We are coming to the end of a trip booked through Trip a deal in Australia that subcontracted Valencia tours. We had local tour guides in Lima (Erica), Puerto Maldonado (Samuel) Machu Picchu (Cosmo) and Puno (angel). Our driver was Richard. The tour was led by Oscar in Peru for 13 days. I could not fault any of the tour guides. Their knowledge of their local areas was exceptional. They were flexible with our needs and we learnt so much from each tour. Oscar was with us every step of the way, ensuring that the extensive travel plans ran smoothly. Down to boarding passes, transfers, information about the local culture/restaurant recommendations/available bathrooms/how much we should be paying for things. He was thorough with his plans and information and overall added so much value to our experience. The tour leader could make or break a trip like this and he certainly made it easy for us in all aspects. I would highly recommend all of the tour guides and the trip in general.

Hard! Amazing!
First, let me just say this is not for the feint-hearted. This is the hardest thing I've ever done, and if you aren't a marathon runner who's spent 4 days in Cusco acclimatising, you will think you are going to die. However, it was amazing! There is so much on the trek that's just as interesting as Machu Picchu (except smaller, but some are huge), then you get Machu Picchu as well. The food (by Wilfredo) was great, the porters were incredible and Juan the guide knew everything about everything we passed, there was not one question he could not answer,

Memorable vacation in Sacred Valley
We had a wonderful experience with Valencia Travel Cusco during our vacation in Peru. From the start, they took the time to understand our preferences, ensuring that our itinerary was tailored to our specific interests and timing. Our guide, Jose, who accompanied us throughout the whole week in the Sacred Valley, was exceptional. He provided fascinating insights about the history, culture, and local traditions that added depth to each place we visited. It was like having a personal storyteller, making every moment enriching and engaging. We were also impressed by the level of support provided by Vivian during the preparation phase. She was readily available to address any questions or concerns, and we had quite a few, always responsive and attentive, ensuring we got the desired vacation plan and felt well-cared for. Everything was well organized, allowing us to fully enjoy the journey without any stress. In conclusion, I recommend Valencia Travel Cusco to anyone seeking unforgettable travel experiences and personalized itineraries. Thank you for making our vacation memorable!

Fabulous Macchu Picchu visit
This was a once in a lifetime bucket list opportunity for my partner . The day started with the Observatory Train ride (separate review). On disembarking we were met by Elizabeth from Valencia Tours. We took the classic route 1&2 routes. She was friendly polite and most important of all knowledgable she see multiple methods of getting over the information, but not in a traditional stuffy guide way- she used personal reflection and knowledge to bring Macchu Picchu to life thereby enhancing the visit even further she was happy to take photos to ensure we had the best of memories of our visit. This tour and particularly Elizabeth are highly recommended.

Most excellent with the best guide I’ve ever had.
I signed up with Trip A Deal out of Australia and Valencia Travel handled the Peru part of our trip Ronald Quispe Farfan was our guide. He was outstanding! He was knowledgeable, kind, caring and went over and above to handle all types of people and situations. Best guide I have ever had. Helped me retrieve my prescription glasses went I unknowingly left them on a bus. He called around immediately and arranged for them to be returned the very next day. He offered incredible service and no judgement on any request that was made. He handled a difficult client and made arrangements that worked for everyone. Was very impressed. He never shared personal details of other travelers but kept us informed and up to date on all information that was pertinent for our travel and well being. Will highly recommend Ronald and the company to family and friends.

Beyond Expectations. Challenging at times but so worth it. Spectacular landscape and unique architecture, culture & food
What a stress free and awesome TripaDeal “Ultimate South America tour” it has been. So well run by the supporting Valencia Travel Team. Our tour guide, Claudio Andia made us feel so welcomed , embracing us into his family & Culture. A very knowledgeable and engaging team leader, ensuring individuals within the group were catered for and able to enjoy the experiences provided, although challenging at times he was so reassuring, calm and always there to lend a hand be it to: climb the stairs, take a photo, get some cash or medical supplies, provide dining options to experience local foods. A big ✅ from me.😎

An unforgettable day with our exceptional guide Elizabeth
Our visit to Machu Picchu was truly one of the most extraordinary days of our lives and that was largely thanks to our wonderful guide, Elizabeth. From the moment we met her, she brought warmth, knowledge and genuine passion to every part of the experience. Her storytelling made the history of the Incas come alive in a way that felt deeply personal and meaningful. Learning about the Inca messenger runners carrying knotted rope messages across the Andes, the spiritual beliefs represented by the condor, puma and snake, and the traditions honouring Pachamama (Mother Earth) added such depth to the visit. Elizabeth shared history with such clarity and enthusiasm, but she also had a beautiful way of weaving in personal stories about her mother and grandmother, helping us understand the cultural traditions that still exist in Peru today. It made the entire experience feel authentic and deeply connected to the land we were standing on. When we reached our first breathtaking view of Machu Picchu, Elizabeth allowed us time to pause and absorb the moment before guiding us through the site with fascinating insights about its construction, history and rediscovery. Her knowledge was exceptional, yet she shared it in such a natural and engaging way that it never felt like a lecture, more like walking through history with a friend who truly loves what she does. She also made sure we noticed the small details we might otherwise have missed, from the water mirrors in the House of the Chosen Women to the incredible engineering used by the Incas to shape the stones and build the city. By the end of the day we felt not only that we had seen Machu Picchu, but that we had truly understood its story. Elizabeth is an extraordinary guide, knowledgeable, thoughtful, passionate and kind. She transformed what could have been simply a sightseeing trip into a deeply memorable and emotional experience. Tupananchiskama – until we meet again. We could not recommend Elizabeth more highly.

Great holiday with great people
We have been fortunate to have been cared for by such professional, considerate and “tolerant” guides and other Tripadeal team members in general. We have just completed a lengthy period with Claudio Andia who epitomised the above. No question, no matter how “ridiculous”, was treated with respect and understanding, understanding that a group of older people can be easily confused and lack an understanding of the cultural and other values of a foreign country. The guides’ local knowledge in particular and their general understanding of the culture and customs of each specific region, was conveyed in an appropriate and sensitive manner. Claudio in particular demonstrated all the positive attributes that makes a long tour so enjoyable and interesting.

South America trip
We had an amazing 12-day trip with Valencia Travel Cusco in the Andes of Peru, and our tour guide, Claudio Andia, made the entire experience truly unforgettable. Claudio was incredibly passionate about his country and extremely knowledgeable about the history, traditions, and culture of Peru. Throughout the trip, he was always checking on us to make sure everyone was feeling well and enjoying the experience. His pride in his culture and his genuine desire to share it with us made every day special. We learned so much and felt warmly welcomed everywhere we went. Some of the highlights of our journey included visiting Rainbow Mountain, Lake Titicaca, and Machu Picchu. These experiences were absolutely breathtaking and became some of our best memories of Peru, made even more meaningful by Claudio’s insights and storytelling. Thank you, Claudio, for your expertise, kindness, and enthusiasm. We are so grateful to have had you as our guide—you are truly the best tour guide!

The wonders of Peru from the mountains to the jungle!
We had a fantastic time in Peru. The trip was made all the better by our tour guide Rolly. His and his colleagues extensive knowledge of the country and there dedication to helping the tour group allowed us to get the most out of a busy schedule. The tours obviously highlights of Machu Picchu, Titicaca and Colca canyon where superb and where managed very well. A personal favourite for us was the La Raya pass train ride from Cusco To Puno which was an amazing day. Our tour finished with 4 days in the InkaTerra jungle lodge and that Amazon adventure will be hard to top. The hotel lived up to its 5 star rating and the jungle flora and fauna was on full display. A fantastic way to end a great holiday. Would recommend this trip to others and would highly recommend Rolly as a top guide and a really nice guy.

A wonderful tour made better by an excellent tour guide.
We went on a South America tour through Newmarket Holidays which was amazing. For the Peru section, they used a guide from this company called Luis Velarde. The information he provided, his hard work behind the scenes in organising the tour and his good humoured delivery at all hours and stages of the trip by him was a significant reason why this tour was such a highlight of the whole trip. Many thanks.

Carlos knows his stuff.
We were incredibly lucky to have Carlos as our guide for three days during our time in Cusco and the Sacred Valley, and we honestly couldn’t have asked for better. From the very first pickup, Carlos was warm, professional and completely organised. He has a deep knowledge of Inca and pre-Inca history, and he explains it in a way that makes everything come alive — not just dates and stones, but real stories about the people, the culture and how it all connects to modern Peru. Over the three days he guided us through places like Sacsayhuamán, Qenqo, the Cathedral in Cusco, Pisaq and Ollantaytambo, and every site felt richer because of his insights. He paced everything perfectly for us (we’re in our 60s and appreciated that!), gave us time to explore, and somehow always positioned us in the right place at the right time. Carlos was patient with our many questions, had a great sense of humour, and made us feel completely comfortable the whole time. Nothing was too much trouble. If you’re visiting Cusco and the Sacred Valley, do yourself a favour and request Carlos. A truly five-star experience.

Rolly was a fantastic tour manager
We went on a tour with Newmarket for a three week holiday in South America. We spent one week in Peru under the supervision of Rolly. He was very knowledgable and was very well organised taking care of everything and giving us handouts. Beware of the high altitude in Cusco unfortunately it made my partner ill and made the decision to return to Lima. Rolly was giving great advice days before what you can do to avoid altitude sickness but we decided not to continue as we would be going higher. Rolly was in daily contact with us making sure we were ok and we met up again when the group returned to Lima. The only thing was some of the itinerary could have been tweaked as sometimes it is full on. We had a 4am start to go to Machu Pichu which was great as we missed the crowds and was an amazing experience. The day before could have been more relaxing as we spent four hours travelling there and back to a remote village to learn about the different variety of potatoes. We were late getting to Ollantaytambo and did not have time to look around and looked an interesting place. We could have spent more time there as it was far from our hotel.

Gorgeous Cusco Delights
We enjoyed the “sexy woman” ruins and view of Cusco below. Edward gave us a comprehensive understanding of the skills and culture of the Inca people . The city tour ensuing was insightful especially the Cathedral. Again Edward has great knowledge of the art work inside and the Inca influence still operating at the time of the Spanish Invasion. There was also an incident where he calmly retraced a phone for a traveller who had inadvertently left it at the Lama farm (previous stop) and organised its return to the ever grateful recipient. He also recommended restaurants and cafes for dinner.

Our fantastic customised 2-day Mystical Journey Tour to Machu Picchu ticket off a lifelong bucket list item
Valencia Travels was recommended to us by friends so we enquired and chose them. Both them and our guide Guido were fantastic! We did the Mystic Journey – 2 day tour to Machu Picchu however needed it customised due to my older mother and her current mobility issues. We also wanted a couple of things added on like a visit to the Ollantaytambo Archeological Site, the fancier train on the way back and for myself to do the Classic 2B circuit with my mum and the Huayna Picchu 3B circuit. Guido was very patient and considerate with my mum always there to offer a helping hand. His knowledge of all the activities we did and sites we saw was thorough and told with a sense of respect and pride for his culture. Guido’s small gestures also didn’t go unnoticed like lending his guide book for my mum to read and his binoculars when she needed to rest while I went on site walks. He also made sure my mum made it to the exit of Machu Picchu safe while I went to start Huayna Picchu and came back and caught up with me to ensure I completed it safely and also received the final guided part of the lower section to the exit. Guido’s restaurant recommendations in Aguas Calientes were also good with our favourite being Full House, just down from our 4-star hotel, Hatun Inti Boutique. The only things I would note that were probably out of Valencia travel’s control was that 1) our room at this hotel and the facilities and staff were great but our balcony overlooked a large amount of heaped rubbish apparently from the construction of a government medical facility, if we had the option to select we would have preferred a river facing room or one that wasn’t directly in front of the rubbish, and lastly, the train that we paid extra for on the way back had it’s route to Poroy cut short and we had to take a bus back from Pachar to Cusco which wasn’t ideal and I assume not equal to the price we paid. Aside from those things we highly recommend Valencia Travel, and our guide Quido, and the both we give a big thank you for helping us tick Machu Picchu of our bucket lists!

Edward Farfan was our guide for the Peru experience portion of our Trip a deal tour of the Incredible Andes & Antartica. Edward was at Lima airport to greet us and we found him to be calm, professional and polite. He gave us handy information about Peru and ensured we understood and were happy. We had 2 nights in Lima and had a walking tour of the city. We then flew to Puerto Maldonado to the Amazon for 2 nights. A few tours were planned and we were guided by Tuto & Yuri. They were fantastic and knowledgeable and spotted animals that we just walked past unaware that they were there. Then we flew to Cusco and had 5 nights in Cusco and 1 night at Machu Picchu Our minibus driver was Richy who was a very safe driver and we felt very comfortable with him especially when the roads are mountainous. We experienced Machu Picchu and it was fabulous even though it was wet. Edward has so much knowledge of Peru and the Inca people. Overall our experience on this trip was five star and Edward was the best guide we could have showing us his country, keeping us safe and sharing his knowledge. Sadly we have had to say goodbye to him as we fly to Argentina for the next leg of our tour. Susan W
