Machu Picchu in One

Our one-day Machu Picchu tour from Cusco by train is ideal for people who are short on time but still want to visit this world-famous attraction. We’ll take you from Cusco to Aguas Calientes and then up to Machu Picchu, where you’ll have a guided tour with a highly knowledgeable local guide. You can explore Machu Picchu along the designated trails. This will depend on the entrance ticket you have and which circuit. See more about Machu Picchu Circuits here. After exploring this magnificent site, we’ll head back to Aguas Calientes and then back to Cusco by train.
Everything will be arranged for you on this Machu Picchu day trip, providing a fun and hassle-free way to see Machu Picchu in one day!
We can also arrange two optional extensions for you:
You can also choose to climb up Huayna Picchu or trek up Machu Picchu Mountain, both of which offer spectacular views of Machu Picchu. Please bear in mind you need a permit for these options.
Your full-day trip to Machu Picchu begins early in the morning when we’ll pick you up from your hotel in Cusco. We’ll then drive to the train station in Ollantaytambo, where you’ll board the Expedition train to Aguas Calientes, the town that sits below Machu Picchu. It’s a wonderful train journey, following the sacred Vilcanota River and passing by ancient villages, lush landscapes and snow-capped mountains.
When you arrive at Aguas Calientes (also known as Machu Picchu Pueblo) your local guide will meet you at the train station and take you to the bus for the scenic ride along the switchback road that leads up the mountain to Machu Picchu.
After this short bus ride, you’ll arrive at the gates of Machu Picchu. You and your highly knowledgeable guide will enter the Inca citadel, and you’ll set off on your three-hour guided tour. You’ll see all the most famous and most spectacular parts of the extensive archaeological complex. These include the House of the Guardian, the Intihuatana, the Temple of the Sun, the Sacred Plaza and other key locations. And as you walk around, we’ll have spectacular views of the agricultural terraces of Machu Picchu and across to the surrounding mountains and plunging gorges.
Later, you will leave Machu Picchu and take the bus back down to Aguas Calientes, where you can have lunch in one of the many restaurants (not included). Then you will board the train back to Ollantaytambo or Poroy. When you arrive at the train station, we’ll be there to pick you up and take you back to your hotel in Cusco.
